Google Space Trick - Google homepage elements floating in zero gravity

The Google space trick is the calm cousin of Google Gravity. Nothing crashes to the floor. The logo, the search bar and the buttons just drift, bump into each other and keep going until you grab one. It's strangely relaxing, and it also breaks in some very ordinary ways.

Where this lands

The Google space trick works well on a desktop browser with scripts enabled, and it's a good quick demo of what a web page can do without any plugin. It works poorly on phones, on browsers that block scripts, and on hosts that have moved. It isn't an official Google feature, so treat it as a toy and don't sign in on it.

What it needs from you

The motion comes from a physics script that keeps updating every piece on the page. That means your computer is doing real work. If you have a lot of tabs open, the motion gets choppy. Close the heavy tabs, use an up-to-date browser, and let the page load fully before you start dragging.

For the base effect, read the Google Gravity guide. In the regular version, pieces fall. In the space version, they float and bounce off the window edges.

The "pieces disappeared" problem

Sometimes you throw a piece too hard and it leaves the screen, or the window gets resized and everything ends up out of view. Refreshing the page resets the layout. If pieces keep vanishing, make the browser window a normal size and try again.

๐Ÿ’ก How to avoid it: throw gently, keep the window size steady while you play, and refresh when things drift into corners you can't reach.

Safety and look-alike pages

These pages copy Google's look but aren't Google. Never enter a password or payment detail on one. If a page asks you to sign in or install something, close it. Stick to hosts you already know.

Pick your flavor

If floating isn't your thing, there are neighbors worth trying. The Google gravity fire page covers the fire-themed fall, and the Google sphere trick wraps the page around a rotating ball.
